The Big Trig Rogaine
This year’s Big Trig rogaine will be in Belmont Regional Park, mostly on 3rd December. You can choose 3, 6 or 9 hours.
You might think of Belmont as farmland with extensive views over the Hutt Valley, Wellington and Porirua, that’s got lots of scope with the iconic trig and the 60 ammunition bunkers. Certainly that was the ”flavour” of NZ’s first rogaine there, 26 years ago. But Chief Planner Mark Malone lives close by, and has been scouring the bush in the valleys. He’s made some fascinating discoveries! Normally in a rogaine the “downs” are easy and the “ups” are worth more points. Well just be careful…
Another thing to weigh up is: daylight or dark? You have the option of doing 3 of your hours on Saturday night 9-12. A taste of the classic 24hr event. There will be a premium for points gained in the dark. Hand in your card, have a sleep, and carry on from base on the Sunday.
With warmer weather and adventure races happening over the summer, you’ll be wanting to brush up your nav and maybe settle in new team membersJ Put this date in your diaries and have a think about which options you will choose. Put this flyer up at work. Suggest the 3hr section to your school-age families. More details are at http://bigtrig.ohv.org.nz. Online entries open in October, close 23 November.
